WRITING SAMPLES
Elevated

Encompassing a tapestry of sixteen Cabernet Sauvignon blocks over eighty-five acres, our Trailside Vineyard has been a part of Heitz Cellar since 1984. Nestled along the eastern side of the Rutherford appellation, this vineyard displays some of the most unique and diverse soil in Napa Valley.

“Harvested early in the middle of August to preserve natural acidity and inherent freshness, the 2020 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon reflects the essence of our Howell Mountain Estate with nuances of madrone and manzanita flowers, sequoia trees, and a volcanic dustiness. The textured midpalate, gripping tannins, and elevated acidity are complemented by notes of cassis, cocoa, tarragon, and fresh bay leaves leading to a lengthy finish. This wine possesses the type of natural acidity and tannin that will allow it to age for years to come.”

Our years are marked in vintages, each one capturing the artistry of Heitz Cellar and becoming a verse in our storied history. As we turn the page to a new year, we look forward to the chapters ahead filled with new releases, special events, and shared moments each time a bottle of wine is opened. Thank you for being part of our story.

Each vintage at Stony Hill marks a moment in time on the slopes of Spring Mountain. For over 70 years, our mineral-driven wines have been shared with the world and now, as part of our Treasures from the Cellar series, we’re opening our cellar to share a special vintage: the 2019 Syrah.

But while the focus of biodynamics might be what we do in the vineyard, it continues into what we do in the winery. Using natural phases of the moon and sun, we have seen great benefit with how and when we perform many cellar tasks. Recognizing that the wine’s life in the cellar is a mirror of the growing season, we can truly capture the exclusivity of the vintage each and every year.

Each year provides unique attributes to a wine, including the amount of sun and rain, the growing and ripening conditions, and numerous additional details that ensure no two vintages are exactly the same. This is especially true in our Andosol, which is crafted each year to best express the terroir of that particular vintage.

As we embrace the beginning of 2024, this period always brings a lot of introspective thought, creative thinking, and planning for the year in front of us. It is a time to reflect on the prior vintage and to look at the future winemaking steps ahead of us such as blending and bottling, pruning in the vineyard, and the release of special vintages from the years now gone by.

Witty

We have three wines that pair oh so well with the start of a new year, those awkward socks your aunt bought you, and months that end in ARY (twice this season).

And with this collection, you’re all set for the holiday whether you’re hosting or heading somewhere. Tell them now, you’ll bring the wine.

It’s a new year! Okay, so it’s nearly March but it’s still technically a new year so we’re going it. And we love a new year. It’s all shiny and new with so much ahead of us like possibilities, exciting moments, and of course, great wine.

Wait, three new wines? That’s like a trifecta! Yep, a really cool one, too. Cool, cool, cool. These wines pair brilliantly with your spring afternoons, new episodes of your favorite TV show, and dinner parties at your friend’s house. Get your corkscrew ready, these are some absolute gems.

But wait, there’s more. Your club shipment includes a 15% discount across the board and a $25 flat shipping fee. Does that mean you can add more wine without paying additional shipping? Yes, yes it does. Add away, my friend.
