A Wine Story
While I had appreciated wine for many years, it wasn’t until 2010 that I became passionate about the subject. It all started at a wine and food festival in Hawaii. I was waiting for a wine and cheese panel to begin when I stood up to change seats so a couple could sit together. A Master Sommelier saw me stand up and took my hand, in what I thought was to help me get to the next seat. Instead he pulled me up to the front of the room and sat me on the panel next to wine makers and three other Master Sommeliers. I was terrified. Not only was my wine knowledge limited, I was sitting next to experts in front of a sea of people who were eager to learn. I managed to get through the seminar and was able to give a one-word opinion on the wine in front of me. “Smooth.” It was that moment that I decided to pursue wine. I wanted to learn as much as I could and the following year, I passed Level 1 of the sommelier exam. Six months later, I became a Certified Sommelier through the Court of Master Sommeliers. Since then, I have traveled to wine regions around the world including France, Germany, Spain, Chile, and South Africa. |
